I Was On The News!!

As many of you know, I was in a near-fatal car crash in 2005 with an 18-wheeler merely two weeks after my high school graduation from McKinney North. The crash and impact were so severe that it caused my neck to break, damaged my C6 spinal cord, and ultimately resulted in me becoming paralyzed.

We don't always understand why things happen and can spend our entire lives wondering, questioning, and reliving moments. Or we can embrace our past and present experiences, learn from them, and help others along the way. We have all been through unique and extraordinary events -- some of intense depth, pain, and struggle and others of amazing greatness and honor. We are all on a journey of understanding and purpose and all have something to offer this world.

In 2009, I started sharing my story - a story of perseverance from bullying, recreational drug and alcohol use, and extreme loss; forgiveness; self-discovery; and purpose. One of the organizations that I align with and share my story through is Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). I was presented an opportunity this week to serve as a guest speaker at this year's Dallas and Tarrant County Joint DWI Task Force Press Conference (11/12/2014) held in Grand Prairie. The mission was to encourage responsibility during this holiday season and present recent updates to DWI offense handling.

April Speeches

April 1, 2014 - Speaking to probation officers at Frank Crowley Court Building in Dallas from 3:00-4:30 pm. After speaking, the court and probation officers presented me with a wonderful "thank you" basket, card, and love offering. It was so unexpected and thoughtful that it made me cry :)

April 3, 2014 - Acting as a "Human Book" at UNT's 2014 Human Library event, hosted by Diane Wahl,  from 2:00-4:00 pm located in Denton, Texas at UNT in the Willis Library Forum. Scattered around the room will be groups of four chairs.  There will be a “book” seated at each group of four chairs, so that there are three chairs left for readers.  When readers come in the entrance, they stop at a check out desk and decide which book they want to read.  We’ll send them to the book they have checked out with a check out slip so the book will know they have been checked out.  A book can have up to three readers at once.  Reading a book is basically a conversation between the book and the readers who have "checked" the book out. My book title will be "Please Don't Drink and Drive."

April 4, 2014 - Speaking to Celina High School at 10:00 am.

April 5, 2014 - Speaking to at-risk teens through MYLIFE at the YMCA in McKinney, Texas.

April 7, 2014 - Speaking to Collin College's nursing students at the Collin Higher Education Center (CHEC) at 10:00 am.

Live.In.Peace Aunt Carol: 4/15/1937 - 1/1/2014

My Great Aunt Carol Nix went to heaven early this morning. She was a wonderful person with a wonderful heart. My Mom, Uncle Marty, Aunt Lana, and I had the privilege to visit her this week and pray with her; a memory I will always cherish. Also, she LOVED the Cowboys! Love her and love you family. Praying for all of you.
